When I first saw an artist book,
I was fascinated by the possibilities.
Mixing words, images, and favorite
materials pulled all my interests
into one direction. In 1986-87, I
built a series of one-of-a-kind books,
form reflecting content, combining
my own poems and drawings with
scrimshaw, oil marbled paper, wood,
fine cloth and leathers, silver, glass
and ivory.

Later, I taught courses in book arts
at Pima College Community Services.
The paper marbling course was very
popular. As one student said, "This is
more fun than making tortillas!"
